What are the Treatment for Painful Red Bumps which are Itchy

Painful Red Bumps

Red bumps refer to any area which appears to be swelling. These can occur with or without itching. The bumps on the skin have varying characteristics. These can be noticeably smooth or rough, hard or soft, and light or dark coloured. These red bumps can be found on different areas of the body. These bumps on the skin can be signs of more serious medical conditions. Red bumps can also be benign or cancerous depending on its severity. Bumps on the skin can either be localized or occupy a large part of the skin.

Once the pain on the affected area begins to take place, symptoms such as fever, chills and swollen lymph nodes can occur, especially for severe types of elevations. Severe itching can also indicate that a red bump has grown on a specific area. Accompanying symptoms such as difficulty of breathing, swollen face and lips, and hives may indicate an allergic reaction. Treatment for these conditions should be administered before they affect other areas of the body.

Elevations and other abnormalities of the skin can be caused by a lot of infections such as acne, boils, cellulitis, dermatitis, and enlarged lymph glands on the neck.

Folliculitis, insect bites, lipoma, lyme disease, and sebaceous cyst can also be causes of painful red bumps. Sometimes, these appear due to an underlying disease or infection. These bumps are red in color, tender, and have secretions filled with bacteria known as pus.

  • Applying of herbal treatments such as sage, lavender, tea tree oil and chamomile. These herbs have anti-pruritic and soothing properties which can relieve severe itch. These can also make the skin smoother upon application.

  • Herbal medicines containing camphor and menthol can also be applied to the infected area. Camphor and mint have antibiotic properties.

  • Proper hygiene. Daily bathing and cleansing can prevent as well as treat the painful red bumps on the skin.
