Causes of High Blood Pressure | What Causes Essential or Secondary Hypertension

Reasons for High Blood Pressure:
High blood pressure is classified into essential hypertension and secondary hypertension.

  • Essential hypertension is also known as primary hypertension. This is a type of hypertension that seems to have no identifiable cause. What is known about it is that it runs in families and the condition is passed on from one generation to another. Essential hypertension is the most common type of hypertension, accounting for more than 90 percent of cases. The chances of acquiring it increase with age.

  • The second type of hypertension is secondary hypertension. This type of hypertension has an identifiable cause, although it affects only a minority of the population, accounting for less than 10 percent of hypertension cases.

Nonetheless, because the cause is known, medication takes the form of tackling the root cause in order to eliminate high blood pressure.

The following are some of the causes of secondary hypertension:

  • Due to sleep disturbances. When a person is too frequently disturbed during sleep or deprived of it, the body does not get enough rest. As a result, the person develops high blood pressure
