The second type is called external hemorrhoid. Thrombosed pile occurs when the external pile is prolapsed and gets strangulated and its blood supply is cut off. If diagnosed within 72 hours after pain begins, the thrombosed piles can be managed by doing surgical excision. It can be done under local anesthesia. Once the hemorrhoid is excised and drained, patient is free from pain.
