The exact cause of chronic bacterial prostatitis is not known. Doctors believe the bacteria that are not eliminated after taking antibiotics in urinary tract infection may settle in the prostate. These bacteria produce symptoms that may come and go for many months. Men suffering from this problem may have pain but there may not be any indication of inflamed prostate.
