Rashes can affect any parts of the body. A rash around or under the eye is called eye skin rash and can be caused by several factors like extreme heat, dry skin, medications, and irritation. In some cases, the rashes can be due to diseases such as:

• Atopic dermatitis. Dermatitis is also called eczema. An atopic type of eczema is characterized by wearing and scarring of skin, dryness, and thickening of skin. It can affect the eyelids, eyebrows, eye lashes, and the skin around the eyes. • Contact dermatitis. Another type of eczema, the contact dermatitis is another allergic reaction from an irritant. The allergies may occur immediately or gradually after exposure to irritants such as cosmetics, plants, clothing, chemicals, and other substances. Its symptoms include redness, swelling, and oozing. Besides the eyes, the allergies can also affect other areas of the body.


• Herpetic zoster ophtalmicus. Caused by varicella-zoster virus, the herpetic zoster ophthalmicus is characterized by redness, rashes, and soreness around the eyes including the eyelids, forehead, and eyebrows; pain in and around the eye, redness of the eye, and swelling of the cornea.
  
  
  


• Herpes simplex keratitis. This infection is caused by herpes simplex type 1, the same virus that causes cold sores around the mouth and the lips. When it affects the eye, the herpes simplex keratitis usually causes an infection of the cornea. Among its symptoms include redness of the eye, overflowing of tears, cloudiness or swelling of the cornea, rashes and pain around the eye.

Rash Around Eyes Treatment

Depending on the severity of the symptoms, one may want to try any of the following home remedies before seeking medical treatment:

• Apply skin moisturizer around the eyes every night.


• Soothe the skin rashes by putting cucumber slices on the eye including the skin under the affected eye for a few minutes.


• Apply cold compress onto the rashes, then apply eye cream.


• Discard old cosmetic products such as mascara, eye shadow, and facial foundation.


• If contact lenses are used, clean them thoroughly. An infection of the eye due to contact lens can also include skin rashes around the eye.

If the symptoms of eye rashes include fever, pain in the eye, and clouding or swelling of the cornea, an immediate medical attention should be sought.

How To Get Rid of Rash Around Eyes

Rashes that are not caused by viruses and do not include swelling or clouding of the cornea as among the symptoms can be due to irritants or allergens. If such is the case, it is wise to discontinue using any beauty and skin care products. If the rashes occur after using a new product, it is best to stop using it and soothe the rashes with natural remedies such as applying honey or fresh extracts of aloe vera, papaya, and avocado onto the rashes.
