February Favorites
This past month I’ve been really starting to experiment more with using essential oils for the health benefits and for the home. Not only are essential oils great because of their aromatherapy and wonderful scents for cleaning, but essential oils are a wonderful alternative treatment for many common ailments! During the month of February, I thought that since I spend so much time indoors, this would be a great time to try them out. Before this month, I had tried using them briefly for treating acne and as an ingredient in my recipe for homemade laundry soap as a natural preservative and for prevention of bacteria growth. I have found that in these two cases using the essential oils were a success!
So, after I was pleased with these results, I thought, gee.., I may be missing something by not using other essential oils, after all, many people have found amazing benefits from them! Earlier this month, I came down with a headache and I wanted to avoid taking any over the counter pain medication, so my mom suggested that I try applying peppermint oil near my hairline to relieve the pain. Within an hour or so, my headache was nearly completely gone! Just last night, I also used the essential oil, lavender to treat a minor, but painful burn I got on my hand from a humidifier, ouch! Lavender oil is supposed to help soothe the pain and prevent scaring. It did help soothe the pain.
I’ve also been experimenting with using different essential oils for their many scents. Later this week, I’ll be putting up a post on how to use them around your house for their natural scents and aroma instead of using the chemically produced scents you buy at the store.
