When examining our daily food intake as adults, we often overlook what our children eat on a regular basis. We need to introduce our kids health food choices that start our kids off on the right foot and teach them about the good food choices they need to make now that will help them later in life.



There are many kids health food options that you can implement, without your children even knowing that they are eliminating foods high in fat or sugar from their daily intake.



Steer clear of powdered drink crystals or sugary drinks. When looking at kids health food items that should be consumed each day, real fruit juice is just one thing many children are lacking. Try to purchase real fruit juice for your child or opt out entirely and offer them water during meals instead. Many schools today are eliminating these sugary drinks and offering more kids health food products when they are at school and away from home. Many schools also require that parents comply by selecting kids health food for snacks and lunch.



Kids health food items offered at a school cafeteria can mean simple things such as raw vegetables, dried fruit snacks or even just using whole grain bread rather than bleached white bread. If you have any concerns about the kids health food choices at your child's school, be sure to talk it over with the administration. If your child does not have the convenience of a local cafeteria at the school, be sure to send healthy food items that are not only good for them, but also easy to consume.



Try not to give your child meal items that are unfamiliar or hard to consume at school. Kids health food items look funny to children may deter them from actually eating their meal. Foods that need to be heated or mixed together at mealtime may also hinder your child from consuming healthy options. Be sure you send kids health food items that are easy to open, quick to eat and tasty because kids are often on limited lunch schedules of 20 minutes or less.
