Migraine Attack Diet Treatment | Foods for Migraine Headache Prevention

Migraine Diet:
Although food has little to do with migraine (except in cases where gluten is seen as a culprit), it is still worthy to take a look at diet as one of the factors which may trigger migraine. This is because some who suffer migraine are found to eat at irregular intervals, while some may even skip meals. As such, here are some dietary considerations to effective migraine management:

  • Avoid foods that contain monosodium glutamate (MSG). MSG is commonly used as seasoning in most foods. It is also found in processed foods as well as food preparations such as soy sauce, stuffing, as well as chips.

  • Avoid cheese and chocolates and some processed foods like hotdogs and sausages.

  • Reduce alcoholic drinks consumption and also limit the intake of coffee.

  • Avoid fatty and oily foods. Generally, when a person is having a migraine attack, all fried foods should be avoided.

  • Avoid ice cream.

Apart from the restrictions above, migraine patients need not add any other restrictions on their diet. What is more important is to identify food triggers of the attack because this is the likely cause of migraine. It will also be well if one will eat regular meals at the proper intervals.
