Most of our work is done on computers these days. Visual habits of human have changed with giving more stress to the eyes in confined spaces for long hours. This near point stress produces temporary and often permanent changes in our vision. Many people spend long time in front of computers which causes fatigue and stress both to your body and eye muscles. Many of the people almost 90% of computer users are students and office workers experience eyesight problems. You can alleviate this problem by improving visual habits and following some techniques and exercises to your daily routine. These are some of the measures to be taken for reducing stress on eye muscles.

Symptoms of computer vision syndrome:

1) Tired,strained eyes
2) Headaches
3) Watery eyes, itching and burning of eyes
4) Blurred vision
5) Neck,shoulder and back pain
6) Eye health problems

Eye Gymnastics: It is preferred to tone and strengthen eye muscles by doing some eye gymnastic exercises. these can be done anywhere and at any time.Keep your head straight and roll your eyes slowly up and down. When you get to the upper and lower limits, hold your eyes there for few seconds, then breath deeply and then move slowly to the other direction. Repeat this 3-4 times . repeat this exercise in diagonal direction from one corner to the other corner.finish it by rolling your eyes in the other direction. This is a very good exercise to strengthen your eye muscles.
Focus: Stand in front of a window and hold your index finger near the tip of the nose. And look at your finger tip for 3-4 seconds. Then shift your focus to a very distant object for 3 seconds. Repeat this exercise close to far and far to close for few minutes. This strengthens your ability to look quickly and accurately from one distance to another.

Blinking: You must practice regularly blinking your eyes.blinking massages the eyes and relieve tension. While blinking eyes, breathe deeply and make soft regular blinks. Closing the eyes for few seconds is also a good break. Blink your eyes to make tears secrete and keeps the eye wet.
Palming: Palming creates relaxation and improves blood circulation. Palming gives rest to the eyes and optic nerves and also the nervous system. Try to do it for at least 5 minutes. Rub your hands together to generate some warmth and healing energy. Place your palms on your eyes.breath gently and slowly. Imagine your field to be black and switch off the light in your room.

Breathe: Because of too much starring at computer screen, your breathe might slow down .breathe slowly and deeply through the nose.breathing loosens the tight muscles and allow blood and nutrients to flow and relaxes the eye muscles. Breathing also relaxes the nervous system as your chest, abdomen and back expand and shrink as you breathe in and out. Remind yourself of breathing regularly for relaxing.
Place your computer on a low level: When you are looking downward,it means more of your eye surface is covered by your eye lids. By this your eyes unconsciously blink more and do not produce much stress. You can use a portable computer or can put your computer on a low level to reduce stress.

Screen distance: The minimum distance between your eyes and screen should be 50 t0 70 cm and 10 to 20 cm lower than your eye sight. This reduces refraction and reduce tiredness to your eyes.
Eat right food: DHA is good for eyes retinas and prevent eye injury and cataract. DHA is rich in salmon, trout ,carrots ,limes and green vegetables. Take fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin A which include mangoes, tomatoes, watermelon, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, fish and eggs.drink plenty of water which helps reduce dehydration.
