Natural Homemade Makeup Remover
Do you ever sleep with your makeup on because you’re too tired to bother taking it off? I’ve been tempted to do this many nights because it was such a chore to take it off! I used to scrub and scrub my face with soap to get if off….ouch! Soap is so harsh on the skin and the dryness it caused just made my skin worse, making me put more makeup on, a vicious cycle!
This was before I discovered how fantastic oil is as a homemade makeup remover. At first, I was reluctant to try oil because I didn’t think it would remove it all and I thought the oil would clog my pores. But, I finally gave this homemade makeup remover a try and it works amazingly well to remove makeup! There’s no need to scrub like crazy to get it off because the oil gently wipes it off on to your wash cloth.
For this homemade makeup remover, all you need is one ingredient, olive oil (or jojoba oil). Olive oil can be used in place of soap or other makeup removers and it is better because it is hydrating!
Washing your face with oil is great because dirt and impurities dissolve naturally without using harsh chemicals or stripping your skin’s protective layer, the acid mantle. Using any soaps or chemicals to wash your face can destroy the delicate pH balance and the acid mantle.
Oil is moisturizing, has healthy fats, and fantastic nutrients such as, vitamins E and K.
Also, many believe the antioxidants in olive oil are anti-aging helping to fight free radicals which cause premature aging of the skin. Since olive doesn’t strip your skin of its natural oils and instead aids in hydrating your skin, this also helps prevent and reduce wrinkles.
Olive oil won’t clog your pores, is very gentle and soothing.
If you’re wondering what type of makeup you can remove with olive oil, it will work easily to remove any type, including: foundation, blush, mascara, eyeliner, and eyeshadow. My mascara has never come off easier than with using oil!
For this homemade makeup remover, you can use any oil you prefer. I typically use either olive oil or jojoba oil. Jojoba oil is especially great for those concerned with skin breakouts because it is non-comedogenic. Coconut oil will also work great.
1. Wash your hands and pour about 1/2 of a teaspoon of olive oil into one hand.
2. Gently massage the oil onto your face and continue massaging for about two minutes. Massaging for a few minutes ensures that your skin is fully saturated with the oil, which makes the makeup extremely easy to remove.
3. Use a warm damp wash cloth to gentle wipe your face and remove the oil.
