Scientifically, fungus is a part of a group of organism that often cause skin infections. There are a lot of kinds of fungi but they all present the same symptoms. All of them give you an itchy, flaky, red and thick skin that usually looks like some other type of dermatitis or simple allergies. Some of the famous forms of fungi are athlete’s foot, ringworm infections and Candida.

Cover the infection

Clean it regularly
An infection gets more complicated when they live on a dirty environment. They feed on bacteria that usually lie on filthy skin. With warm water and a mild soap, gently scrub the surrounding areas on the infection on your arm. Not only that you prevent the infection spread to other areas, cleaning it will also help the infection stop from further complication.


Medications to avoid
Antibiotics are taken by those who have bacterial infections. In the process, it can decrease the number of good bacteria as well. When this happens, fungi can easily infect and get an opportunity to colonize. Another medication that you have to avoid temporarily while you have fungal infection is corticosteroids. They are used to decrease the inflammation and some other skin disorders. With that, it can reduce your immune response which is a very favourable condition for fungi to grow.


Medications to take


A mild hydrocortisone cream can help you relieve the itching temporarily. Nowadays, there are new broad-spectrum antifungal medications that can treat any kind of fungal infections. Terbinafine, Fluconazole and Itraconazole are some of the few. The duration of the therapy regimen depends on the severity of the infection. For best results, consult your doctor first  before trying any of the treatment stated above.  On top of medications, also consider the various creams that you can apply to the infection as well.


Keep it dry and cool
A dry and cool condition will avoid the spread of fungal infection.  If possible, when you do wrap the infection, make sure that you tend to unwrap and wrap it at least on a daily basis.  Failing to wrap it can leading to a sweaty, warm environment that the bacteria may tend to feed on.
