Left Side Back Pain

Left Side Back Pain
The American Medical Association, (A.M.A.), estimates that nearly three out of five Americans will suffer frommoderate to severe left side back pain at some point in their lives. If you have ever experienced left side back pain, you know how difficult it can be to deal with the pain and continue functioning normally until it is treated. Due to the nature of left side back pain being present in an area without vital organs, it is very difficult to pinpoint the actual cause and cure it entirely.

One of the most common causes of left side back pain is a muscular-skeletal problem. A lumbar strain or misaligned disk in your spinal column can cause severe pain, and be difficult to identify at first. A very popular treatment for the pain caused by these items, is a prescription muscle relaxer in each case, and chiropractic treatment if you have vertebrae in your spine that are not quite aligned correctly.

Another potential cause of left side back pain is the presence of kidney stones in your system. Usually caused by dehydration, kidney stones are the result of crystallization of various substances in your kidneys that can be very difficult to pass through your urinary tract. As they are hardened lumps that need to leave your body through a system that generally only supports the flow of liquids, it can cause great discomfort as they progress through the body. Nowadays, doctors are able to break apart most kidney stones with a device that functions in a similar manner as an ultrasound, so you do not have to deal with the immense pain as you wait. Before any diagnosis is made, or treatment is administered, the doctor can do a simple urine test and check for any abnormalities that can prove your pain is caused by a kidney stone.

Left side back pain is incredibly difficult to cope with, especially in cases where you are always physically active in your lifestyle. Getting the proper treatment is incredibly important to full recovery, and regardless of whether you have a slipped disk or a simple muscle strain, it is essential that you follow the doctor’s orders.
