Stiff Neck Pain
Most of us have experienced stiff neck pain in their life, thanks to the prolonged time spent with the computer, sleeping in an abnormal position or doing exercise without appropriate warming up. Even sleeping with large number of pillows can cause stiff neck. However, an accident or injury to upper body may also lead to stiff neck pain. Stiff neck is generally considered as harmless problem by most of the physicians. It is observed mainly due to improper posture or limited movement that may result in stiffness of muscles until unless there is some medical condition associated with it. A stiff neck typically lasts for two to three days and the pain automatically subsides once the neck muscles assume proper positions.
Stiff neck usually happens due to muscle soreness but if it continues for longer duration than there can be some underlying problem and it becomes pretty serious matter to be looked into. Stiff neck pain for much longer duration can be sign of Spondylthesis which is a serious problem if it is left unattended. This condition occurs when the connecting cartilages between two vertebrae gets worn out and are subsequently replaced by mineral deposits that tend to harden the region and resulting in stiff neck pain. Improper posture and improper food may further work towards aggravating this problem so it is advised by the doctors to taken healthy nutrition and adopt proper posture while working, walking, sitting and even sleeping.
