Stomach aches are perhaps the most common of all pains that are incurred by citizens around the world today, however they can also mask upper abdominal pain that can be caused by a variety of different factors. If you have a long lasting stomach pain, there is a good chance that it is upper abdominal pain. There are a few things that cause these sorts of pains, and they can be a bit more serious than simply eating a meal that “does not agree with your stomach.”



One of the most common causes of upper abdominal pain, is an issue or problem with the pancreas in the human body. In cases where the pancreas is failing, it has issues breaking down and utilizing the sugar in your food intake, which is where you see diseases such as hypoglycemia. If untreated for a while, a pancreatic disorder of this nature can actually cause death in those who suffer from it.



Another type of disorder that can cause upper abdominal pain in humans is a gallbladder abnormality. This is most likely to be painful in the right side of the abdomen, as that is where the gallbladder is located, and common symptoms apart from abdominal pain are flu-like symptoms such as an elevated body temperature and vomiting. This also can be a very serious disorder, and requires medical testing to see if it is truly the cause of upper abdominal pain. One of the best ways to deal with this disorder is adequate rest.



A vast majority of the issues and caused by the stomach can actually be a result of an ulcer in your stomach, or issues with your intestinal tract or your bowels. Upper abdominal pain is quite common in many digestive tract impairments, especially when you eat foods with which your body is unfamiliar, or you are on a new diet. Stress is also a very good cause for ulcerations in the stomach, so if you have taken on any new responsibilities, projects, etc. or have not been sleeping well, it can cause discomfort and pain in the abdomen.
