Rashes on the chest are not often life-threatening unless they are due to a severe infection. These can last for some time and would eventually disappear without any treatment. However, the discomforts these bring like itchiness and skin dryness can be remedied.

  • Use of over-the-counter or non-prescription medications like antihistamines and anti-itch creams with camphor can bring relief to the itchiness and redness.

  • One can also use moisturizing lotions to prevent further skin damage due to dryness.

  • Those who are suffering from eczema or atopic dermatitis should obtain vaccination against smallpox, even if this condition is not active. This is because individuals suffering from such skin conditions are at risk of acquiring virus in the skin which can lead to a more serious health problem.
