Facial Rash in Children: Causes & Treatment for Facial Rash in Babies









Babies and children are more susceptible to skin rashes in general and facial rashes in particular. It is for two reasons, firstly due to the delicate skin of the baby and not so developed immune system in babies.










Of the several health problems that the child faces since birth, facial rash is the most common. A baby can develop rash on the cheeks few days after the birth, the reason can be contact dermatitis or a fungal infection.


Baby Facial Rash Causes



  • Acne type eruption can be seen in a three to four week.



  • Rash on the face can be due to contact dermatitis due to soaps used while bathing.

  • Eczema.

  • Heat rash

  • Military rash occurs on face, neck, cheeks, and chin.

  • At times rash can also result due to cold climate in winter season.

  • Mosquito and other insect bites.

Facial Rash in Older Children Causes



  • Urticaria.

  • Fungal infection.

  • Molluscum contagiosum.

  • Atopic dermatitis.

  • Pityriasis versicolor.

  • Allergic dermatitis.


Baby Facial Rash Treatment



  • As the baby skin is delicate, it is always better to consult a doctor to treat facial rash in children.

  • A dermatologist may recommend natural oils such as coconut oil or olive oil if the rash is caused due to cold winter season.



  • If the rash is due to a fungal cause, he may advise anti fungal ointment.

  • In case of contact dermatitis, the material which is harming the baby facial skin should be discarded.

  • If the cause of facial rash is due to supplementary foods, you have to stop giving this food, and continue breast feeding.

  • Molluscum contagiosum can be cured with homeopathic medicine such as Thuja.

  • Prepare paste from sandalwood powder and rose water, apply it on the facial rash, it is a simple home remedy.
