Knee Surgery Complications: Knee Replacement Surgery Complications

Any type of surgery whether it is a minor surgery or a major surgery, carries a risk of complication even with the best efforts put by the surgeons.

With invent of modern technology and effective antibiotics, the percentage of knee surgery complications have reduced. The most common complication is blood clot and the most serious complication arising from any knee surgery is infection.

Arthroscopic knee surgery complications: in this surgery, a small fiber optic tube is inserted in the knee through the incision and the surgeon gets direct view of the internal structures for its correction.

  • Deep vein thrombosis is one of the complications of this surgery.

  • Post operative knee infection is second complication which is faced generally in an arthroscopic surgery. Diabetics, persons with low immunity, chronic smokers are more vulnerable to infections.

  • Loss of sensation can be felt temporarily due to damage to the nerves.

  • Failed surgery may require another surgical repair, though the instances are rare.
