Left Leg Pain: Causes and Treatment for Numbness and Pain in Left Leg









Pain in your legs can be debilitating condition which may hamper you from doing your daily activities.










Left leg pain can be an acute condition or a chronic one, it can be due to an acute traumatic injury or a referred pain from a pinched nerve in your spine. Both the conditions can disable to perform your routine task. There are other causes which we would discuss below.


Left leg pain due to cellulitis: it can be due to an infection where the part of the leg gets swollen and red. It can be due to a bacterial infection.


Fracture of left leg bone can also cause pain in that leg.


Muscle tear or tendon injury due to rigorous exercise and sports activity is another cause of left leg pain.


One of the most common causes of chronic left leg pain is sciatica of left leg. It is the pinched nerve of the spine which gives radiating left leg pain and numbness from back to the lower leg.


Left leg pain at night can result from nocturnal leg cramps.


Osteoarthritis of left knee joint can cause pain in the left knee.


Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is another serious cause for left leg pain when there is narrowing of arteries of the left leg.


The contributing factors for this are smoking, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, high cholesterol level. The disease can be treated if detected early.


Chronic left leg pain and numbness is a common feature of spinal canal stenosis.


Prolapsed intervertebral disc can cause radiating pain in the left leg. It is accentuated on coughing, numbness and pin and needles sensation in the area of the nerve supply in the left leg are often symptoms of PID.


Low level of calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and sodium can also cause cramps in calf muscles of the left leg.
