Pulled Abdominal Muscle or Hernia: Reasons for Pulled Abdominal Muscle
The abdominal wall of human beings is made up of several muscles. The six pack abs you see are the muscles of the abdomen.
Various abdominal muscles are; the rectus abdominus which runs from pelvis to the ribs in vertical direction, the external and internal oblique are on the sides of abdomen and the transverse abdominis is deepest of all the abdominal muscles.
Pulled abdominal muscle is a result of weakness of the abdominal muscles or an injury to the muscles.

The recovery time of pulled muscle can be less if the strain on the muscle is minor. It may take a longer time if the injury or the tear is large.

- It supports the trunk.
- It helps the movement of the body.
- Helps to control the internal pressure of the abdomen.

Causes of Pulled Abdominal Muscle
- Powerful muscular pull or strain occasioned by lifting a heavy object.
- Raised intra abdominal pressure is liable to cause pulled muscle or hernia.
- Whooping cough in childhood, chronic cough in adults, continuous sneezing.
- Straining for urination due to urethral obstruction.
- Straining while passing stools can precipitate hernia or pulled abdomen.
- Obesity and pregnancy. Excessive abdominal fat separates muscle bundles and layers, weakens them and favors the appearance of umbilical, para -umbilical, inguinal and hiatus hernia.

Pulled Abdomen Muscle Symptoms
- Pain in the abdomen on movement.
- Spasm of the abdominal wall following an injury
- Bruising and swelling form torn abdominal muscle. The pain is severe and movement becomes difficult.
- Hernia: due to excessive intrabadominal pressure the muscle becomes weak. It results into protrusion of intestine in the outer abdominal cavity.
