How to Avoid Razor Burns: Aloe Vera To Prevent and Soothe Razor Burn









Causes Of Razor Burns










Razor burns are so termed because of the painful burning sensation felt on the area where the razor nicked or cut the skin. The most causes are:



  • Shaving in opposite direction of the hair growth.

  • Using a razor with dull blades.

  • Improper shaving

  • Dry skin plus insufficient lubrication.


Razor burns are painful and also unsightly; thus, those affected by this condition would want to treat this as soon as possible.


How To Prevent Razor Burns


It is not that tough to avoid razor burns. Just be careful and take some precautionary measures. Here are a few things that can be done to avoid and eliminate razor burns:



  • Using old blades that have become dull tends to inflame the skin.


    Use new blades at regular intervals. Throw used blades and use newer one every couple of days. The best rule is to use a disposable razor at most 3 times before replacing it with a new one.

  • Also, use newer blades if the growth is especially thick.

  • Some people push the blade too hard on their skin. Try to be more careful.

  • Never pull skin to make it taut while shaving

  • After shaving, wash face with cool or cold water. Do not rub face after the wash. Dab it dry very softly and gently.

  • Apply aftershave after washing the face.


    Apply only if skin is not allergic to the aftershave. Check the ingredients first and determine any that could trigger an allergic reaction in that certain individual.

  • If the face has dry patches use any gentle lotion which has some cooling effect on the skin.


Home Remedies For Razor Burns


If, after all the precautions, the individual still experiences razor burns, the following home remedies can be effective:



  • Instead of using alcohol as antiseptic on the inflamed skin, use organic apple cider vinegar instead. This can also prevent infections from developing on the affected skin.

  • Peel a potato and rub it on the affected skin gently. Do not rub hard as this action can irritate the skin further.

  • Crush a few pieces of strawberries and apply these on the affected areas. These will help in preventing infections and could act as antiseptic on the skin.

  • Take a piece of aloe vera and break it into two. Rub the soft gooey gel on the affected areas. This can sooth the pain, providing almost instantaneous relief against irritation.
