Do I Have Symptoms of Sun Burn?
One of the most telltale signs of sunburn is the redness of the skin. This red skin may feel very tender to the touch and can even radiate heat. A person may feel a stinging pain when a person or an object touches the area where the sunburn is. Usually, a person will find it hard to wear clothing when they have sunburn but once the clothing is on, movement of the clothing is what triggers the stinging pain, not the clothing itself sticking to the person’s skin.
Some people may experience having blisters forming with their sunburn. These blisters may feel itchy and may be filled with fluid, as one would sometimes see in minor burns that a person can get from flames and embers. These blisters often pop after a few days or when they “ripen”.
Other symptoms that may occur when sunburn occurs include some swelling and the exposure of raw skin after the blisters pop. When the skin is exposed, it shows off as pink spots on the skin and these are rather painful to the touch, much like an open wound being touched.
How to Avoid Sun Burn
Because sunburn occurs because of too much exposure to the sun, it is but natural that the best thing to prevent it is minimize exposure to the sun. This can be done in many ways, including the following:
- As much as possible, do not stay under the sun’s heat for more than a few minutes. Still, if really necessary, wear protective clothing and gear. Long-sleeved shirts, long pants, hats, and sunglasses are great options.
- Also, it is a good idea to wear sunblock or sunscreen.
- Drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration.
- Avoid using harsh chemicals and skin whitening products as these make the skin more sensitive to the sun.
Dealing With Signs Of Sun Burn Using Home Remedies
The following are home remedies for sunburn:
- Cut a stalk from an aloe vera plant. Peel of the hard casing to reveal the soft gel-like material inside. Rub this soothing gel unto the affected areas to cool them and to provide instant relief.
- Fill the bathtub with water and add some drops of rose water or sandalwood oil or peppermint oil. Bathe in this.
- It is also a good idea to soak in a tub of cold water.
- Add a few drops of vinegar in a cold bucket of water. Dip a cotton towel and apply this on the affected areas.
