What Is Nausea
Nausea is one of the most common symptoms that most of the entire world population will experience at least once in their lives. This is a sensation of discomfort in the upper stomach that could give rise to the feeling of wanting to vomit or retch. It could be experienced because of:
- Pregnancy
- Motion sickness
- Stress
- Food poisoning
- Side effects to medications
- Secondary symptom to certain ailments
It is important to understand that nausea is not an ailment but merely a symptom of an underlying condition. Often, it is not harmful but could indicate a more serious underlying ailment.
Diet For Nausea Treatment
- When a person suffers from nausea due to certain types of food, then he/she may need to avoid these. This is especially the case when vomiting is experienced by pregnant women who see or smell certain foods they have suddenly grown averse to.
- Since nausea and vomiting is usually aggravated by foods that are overly greasy or are oily, the individual will need to avoid fried foods, oily foods, and even fast foods that are actually cooked in grease and are high in saturated fats.
- Spicy food and junk food are also known to induce nausea or make the nauseous feeling worse.
Try to stay away from such food as much as possible. - A diet that is rich in fiber is always a good idea and those who suffer from nausea will also benefit from this kind of a diet.
- Try to take food in small amounts as well spaced over five to six small meals in one day rather than as 3 big meals.
- Try to include rice, bananas, whole wheat toast, and applesauce into the diet since these seem to combat the feeling of nausea and dizziness.
Home Remedies For Treating Nausea
- Suck on a small piece of peeled ginger.
- Consume around ½ tsp of ground cumin seeds.
- Boil ½ cup of rice in 1 cup water until cooked. Remove the rice and drink the remaining liquid.
- If the nausea is related to pregnancy and occurs during mornings (as in morning sickness), then the patient is advised to drink a mixture of 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar with 1 tbsp honey right before bedtime.
