New Diet Supplement
When people decide it is time to lose weight, they may look for a new diet supplement to help them. This new diet supplement may be in the form of nutrients such as minerals, fiber, vitamins, amino acids or fatty acids. These elements can often be insufficient in the diet that the person is on, so using a diet supplement would be the only way that you can get the recommended daily amounts of these nutrients.
The United States government has an organization called the Food and Drug Administration that oversees any new diet supplement that is introduced. If a food substance is introduced as a diet supplement, the FDA doesn't get involved in the approval. So, you would be relying on the claims of the company producing the diet supplement for its safety and benefits.
Many of the companies that release a new diet supplement have testing behind them as well as research that can back up their claims. However, it is still a good idea to ask a health professional about any diet supplement before you begin taking one. You could use a diet supplement for weight loss or for building muscles while losing weight.
A diet supplement is defined as: its purpose is to supplement the diet, contains at least one if not more of the vitamins, minerals, amino acids, herbs or fatty acids and is in pill, capsule or liquid form. The labeling on the packaging must state that it is a diet supplement. Of course, if it is a new diet supplement you can be sure it will tell you so.
To be considered a new diet supplement the ingredient must not have been in any dietary supplement product prior to 1994. A diet supplement can't claim to cure, diagnose, treat or prevent any disease like a drug can. The only claim a new diet supplement may make is that it might reduce the risk of disease, that it has a relative amount of nutrients or nutrient and that it may affect the organs or systems of the body without being specific about any diseases it may help.
