What is Ileus or Paralytic Ileus | Types, Symptoms And Treatment .  Or it is also called as paralysis of intestine sufficient to stop passage of food through intestine leading to blockage.  Paralytic ileus is usually a post operative complication.  It may also result from use of certain drugs or illnesses like fibromyalgia.  Hypokalaemia may also lead to paralytic ileus.  Paralytic ileus leads to constipation and bloating sensation in abdomen.  On examination  Auscultatory findings reveal peristaltic activity is heard as bowel is inactive. Lack of bowel movement and or flatulence.  Excessive belching. Treatment for Ileus Patient is kept nil by mouth.  Naso gastric tube suction and parentral feeds are needed until passage is restored.  Causative agents like drugs if any causing ileus are to be discontinued.  Drugs like lactulose may be prescribed to stimulate bowel movement.  Correction of electrolytes is done in case of hypokaleamia.
