How To Get Rid Of Baby Dandruff

How To Get Rid Of Baby Dandruff
Does your baby have weird white-like things molting from his head? Did you notice that your child is being irritable? Though it may be uncommon to infants, dandruff affects babies. However, if you see flaking and scaling in your baby’s scalp, it isn’t necessarily dandruff. If you aren’t sure what it really is, do not do anything until you find out about those flakes. More often than not, dandruff only shows up through puberty and stays there during your teen years. White flaking scalps on your baby could also mean something else like sunburn or using too much shampoo. But the real and most common thing that the white scalp often turns out to be is your baby’s cradle cap. While dandruff isn’t lethal or dangerous, it is one thing you or your baby do not want to have. It is unsightly and can be a bit irritating because it is itchy.

The one thing you may want to do if your baby does have dandruff is to go and take him to the doctor as soon as possible. It is mentioned before that dandruff is uncommon in infants which are more the reason why the doctor should have a look before doing anything else. If you decide it is dandruff but it was actually sunburn and decided to treat it, you could be in deeper trouble than before. Always remember that before treating dandruff, make sure it is dandruff and not anything else. Dandruff isn’t fatal but it could cause fatality if mistreated. A ringworm is also a possibility but be sure to take the doctor’s word before jumping into any conclusion. There is a huge difference between ringworm, sunburn, and dandruff. Your first job is to figure out what it is and the good doctor can help with that. Now, if ever you have confirmed that your baby is suffering from baby dandruff, here are some helpful tips that you can follow to get rid of baby dandruff.

Brush and wash
You may want to get rid of the excess flakes found all over his scalp. One method to accomplish this is to brush his hair before shampooing and washing it every day with little shampoo. This will reduce the flakes found on your baby’s head and it will also get rid of any other germ your baby may have.

Medicated shampoo
If the latter proves ineffective, buy a medicated dandruff shampoo. However, when using a medicated dandruff shampoo, be extra cautious. Make sure that the product you have contains either tar or salicylic acid. The other is to make sure that the shampoo you buy is safe for use of babies. Your doctor and pharmacist should help you with that.

Avoid using greasy hair products
Dandruff will get worse if you use greasy, oily, or styling shampoo and conditioner. Try to use gentle shampoo until the condition lessens or completely subsides. Failure to do so may lead to further problems and make your dandruff worse than before.

Go to the doctor
Other that the mentioned above, do not try anything else unless it was the doctor who said so. Consult with them once or twice a month and keep them informed about your baby’s status so that they can take necessary actions for curing your baby’s condition.
