Lower Cholesterol Through Diet

Lower Cholesterol Through Diet
Heart health really does matter. Heart disease is one of the most common causes of death. Sadly, obesity and high cholesterol levels are one of the biggest causes of heart disease.

You need to start at the source to avoid becoming the next victim of heart disease, and thankfully, you can lower cholesterol through diet changes.

You can actually decrease the levels of bad cholesterol by up to 20 percent by simply making some changes in the way you eat. It's simple to lower your cholesterol through diet alone if you are willing to make some wise choices.

All you need to do is learn to identify fats and group them as follows: healthy fats, saturated fats and trans fats. Once you have done this, simply avoid foods that contain either of the last two fats, and stick to a diet that is rich in healthy fats instead. Good fats are found in things like olive oil, avocados, vegetables and plant oils and fish. When added to a diet rich in vegetables, whole grains and fruits, these fats can help you lower your cholesterol through diet alone.

A meal of fresh fish seasoned with herbs and cooked on a tray sprayed with olive oil, plus whole grain rice cooked and tossed in balsamic vinegar with your favorite roasted vegetables in the oven makes a simply delicious meal. Plus, it's low in cholesterol and high in taste. You also get quite satisfied when you eat the right balance of healthy fats, protein and carbs.

For breakfast, a bowl of oatmeal prepared with warm milk is a great way to lower your cholesterol through diet. One of oatmeal's added benefits is that it is a whole grain and will leave you feeling fuller longer. This leaves you less tempted to snack before lunch.

Also, an increasing range of products are available to help you lower cholesterol through diet. Several of these products take the place of butter and margarine, giving you healthy fat through olive oil spreads and sprays. By using these spreads and sprays in place of bad fats found in animal products such as butter and cream, you can lower your cholesterol through diet and significantly reduce your risk of heart attack and the need for any medical intervention or medication to bring your cholesterol levels down.
