While there are times when nausea cannot be prevented, especially if it is associated with certain ailments or if you are a person who is rather prone to motion sickness, there are some things you can actually do to help alleviate this problem when you feel it or help you stop it when it begins. Here are some suggestions:
- When you feel nauseous due to motion sickness, you might want to focus on something in the distance to stop the feeling of queasiness in your stomach or throat. Try to get a spot in the boat, car, bus or train that lets you see the horizon and focus on something there to help calm your gravitational center.
- Since alcohol does cause nausea and vomiting when a person over-imbibes, avoiding alcohol or watching what you drink when you are socializing will help you prevent nausea.
- When you feel that you have little to no control over your motion sickness, you may want to take certain medications to stop you from feeling dizzy or nauseous when travelling. Dramamine can be had over the counter and should be taken half an hour before you are slated to travel to have the effect you need.
