How to Get Rid of Eating Habits

How to Get Rid of Eating Habits
Eating is essential to one’s survival as this is the base and biggest part of our physiologic needs. According to Maslow, food, as long as it helps us, is very beneficial to one’s body. It is where we get our energy and nutrients to survive our everyday living.

You are what you eat—a very famous cliché but it’s really true. It is known that there are some foods that can be harmful to our bodies especially when taken in large consumptions. There is always a corresponding consequence when we abuse our body. Nowadays, health and becoming physically fit has become a necessity and is no longer a sign of vanity. So, if ever you decide to break some bad eating habits, give yourself a pat on the back for wanting to love yourself and wanting to be healthy. Here are a few tips to help you with that.

Set a goal
This is one way to prepare you mentally. Set the things that you want to achieve and as well as your desired time frame. Challenge yourself. Changing any kind of habits is very hard especially when it comes to something as good as food. So, I suggest that you write down a list of the following: What are the foods that I want to avoid? What are the foods that I should start eating? Know what you want. Research if you must. The next thing that you have to do is to put these lists on places that you can see them: kitchen counter, bedroom, bathroom, wallpaper for your computer and so on. Just make sure that you are constantly reminded of your goals.

Start now
Not later, not tomorrow, not next week. The more you postpone it, the more you will think that it’s unnecessary. After you made the list, immediately follow the things that are written there.  To educate yourself further, there are many great books on the market that discuss eating habits into detail.

Find an eating buddy
It is so much easier to make a change when you have someone else that shares the same goal. Make sure that that person is someone who can influence you to follow your eating goals. This is a good thing because you can look out on each other’s diet. Constantly remind each other of the things that you want to achieve.

Do it moderately
The more you starve yourself with the food that you have cravings for, the more you will want it. The key is to do it moderately. Maybe cut down ¼ of it for the first week, then another quarter for the next until you completely change your food preference. Also, it is best to have “a day of indulgence”. This is the day where you can eat the foods that you want (still in moderation). This way, you can still get to it sometimes and you won’t think about it every day.

Seek professional help
If you’re finding that you just can’t control your eating, you may want to set out and seek professional help.  These groups will not only help you team up with others with the same problem, they will also assist you with getting rid of your eating habits for good.
