Multivitamin Mineral Supplements

Multivitamin Mineral Supplements
The human body is a complex structure. It has numerous chemical reactions going on inside it. There are plentiful amounts of hormones, enzymes and chemicals formed inside it. These are all formed during various physiological functions and stages of life like digestion, pregnancy, lactation, puberty, respiration, sleep, etc.

The body is a super computer and can sense the requirement of each organ and also the minutest microscopic cell of the organs. These organs and cells pass on information via the nerves and through a variety of complex processes, out of which majority are chemical processes and some are electrical, the message is delivered to the brain.

The brain first decodes the signal and the information and then decides on the further course of action. According to the information required the brain again sends a signal to some other relevant organ and orders it to release the required hormones or the enzymes as needed by the situation. All these numerous processes are completed within a fraction of a second.

But when the cells of the body inform the brain that there is a requirement for a certain vitamin or an essential mineral, the brain is helpless and cannot do anything about it or cannot initiate the release of the Vitamins or essential hormones.

This is due to the fact that Vitamins and essential minerals are not produced in the human body. The only signal that the brain sends out in response is to raise an alarm, that too over a period of time. The lack or deficiency of Vitamins and essential minerals can trigger of an alarm in the brain and the brain in turn instigates the organs in particular and the body in general to exhibit a variety of symptoms of a peculiar nature.

These symptoms are peculiar to each Vitamin or mineral deficiency. For example the deficiency of Zinc can cause dryness of skin, problems in conception, acne, lusterless hair etc. The lack of calcium may lead to cramps in the muscles and disorders like tetany and Osteoporosis.

All these factors must be taken in to consideration while prescribing multivitamin and mineral supplements. The use of multivitamin and mineral supplements is encouraged when there is overall malnutrition or also in cases where there is some underlying severe disease like Cancer, Tuberculosis, and Aids etc. Also in pregnancy and during lactation when the requirement of these vitamins and minerals increase, doctors prefer to prescribe these supplements.
