Unfortunately, even if it sounds that this should only exist in science fiction movies, it does exist. There are different parasites that live off of the human body and some of them live inside our bodies.


One of the most common parasites that live in our body is hookworms. They usually reside in the small intestine of humans and other animals such as cats and dogs. There are different ways you can get hookworms, none of them you should attempt to do. Since hookworms absorb nutrients such as protein and iron from the body, it causes deficiency and other diseases that can weaken the body.


When you do get hookworms, it’s not the end of the world. There are still procedures and preventive measures that you can do to make sure that you get rid of them. A lot of people do not know that they have hookworms and if the condition gets worst, the repercussions can be more critical. Here are some of the things you need to do to get rid of hookworms from your body:


Get yourself checked
Annual check up and physical should be mandatory for every living being on this planet. Through check up intervention can be done since early detection of any disease will prevent it from getting worst. Such is the case with hookworms, even if you don’t feel anything, have yourself checked in annual basis to identify presence of parasites in the body.


If you do feel something such as constant stomach pains and fatigue, make sure that you go to the doctor to identify the cause. These are some of the symptoms detected to people who have parasites in the body. By having yourself checked by the doctor, you will be able to find the right treatment.


De-Worming
De-worming is one of the most common treatments for people that have hookworms. But before trying out medicines, you should have checked with a doctor regarding the condition so that they can prescribe medicines. Mebendazole is one type of medicine that can be taken to get rid of hookworms from the body.


For your pets, you can consult a veterinarian first before giving them any type of medicine. Dogs that are given the right medicine will help rid of the hookworms permanently.


Try Garlic
Garlic may not smell good when you get them in your hands but once you cook them they smell of heaven and they add a tremendous amount of flavor to your food. There are several benefits garlic can provide. They can get rid of bacteria and fungi, so once you eat garlic the chances of getting hookworms will be less.


Proper disposal of feces
Hookworms live in the small intestine and when the body releases fecal matters, it will sometimes include hookworms, especially after taking de worming medicines. Humans do not have an issue with disposing of feces since they go straight to the can but our pets may be engaged to feed on the dirt. Make sure that the feces are disposed of properly, tied in a bag or buried underground.


Overall clean environment
There is nothing like living in a clean surrounding and if you do manage to live a healthy lifestyle, you prevent getting parasites in your body. Make sure that you eat food from reliable sources as hookworms can be acquired through feeding on foods that were prepared poorly.
