Ice pick headaches are nothing compared to ordinary headaches. With the name itself, this kind of headache is like having an ice pick stabbed in your head. It is very painful however it is a very short lived headache. It headache lasts from 5 to 30 seconds and it will leave the person stressed out and somewhat shocked. Normally, the pain radiates anywhere on the head or maybe behind the ear or on the nape area.
Medically speaking, these episodes are called ‘Primary Stabbing Headaches’. It is called primary as this kind of condition has no other underlying illness or diagnosis. This can be a problem because symptoms that last this short is impossible to have tests with. Doctors associate this condition with those who have migraines. All you have to do is to press you thumb to your right nostril and breath through your left nostril. Exhale through your right nostril while pressing down the other nostril. Repeat this sequence for a good 20 minutes. If you don’t have time for that, just simply have deep breathing exercises as often as possible. Breathe in and hold that for 5 seconds the exhale with a pursed lip. That will help you heart pump more blood and eventually give off oxygen to your brain.

With all the types of headache, rest is the key to almost every single one of them. Headaches are manifestations of being stressed out. So every once in a while, find you peace and relax for about 5 minutes. That would give your brain time to function well with enough oxygen. Also, try to get at least 6 to 7 hours of sleep daily. Sleep helps your body systems to recuperate and be ready for the next day’s activities.
Have your eyes checked
Sometimes, headaches and migraines are a result of strained eyes. Visit your ophthalmologist and see if you are a candidate for eyeglasses.
