Herbal Food Supplement

Herbal Food Supplement
In today's world, commercial manufacturing and processing of food is responsible for the elimination of vital nutrients from the food we consume, rendering the food itself deficient in the amount of essential nutrients required by the body. To compensate for some of these deficiencies and promote optimum health, taking herbal food supplements would be a viable alternative to go with. These are able to provide the nutrients that we lack in a natural and very effective form.

When talking about herbal food supplements, the implication is often greens and green vegetables. One of such greens is the 'Spirulina platensis', which has been referred to as one of the greatest foods on earth. It can be used as a complete food item, and has been used by astronauts to care for their nutritional needs in space. This is one of the richest vegetable sources of protein containing all the essential amino acids required by the body. It is the only known source of vitamin B12.

This vegetable has also been found to be a rich source of powerful antioxidants which support immunity and can prevent cancer. However, since it supports immunity, it is not recommended for use by people with autoimmune conditions. Research has also shown that this vegetable has the ability to act against HIV, and has shown activity in tests against viruses like influenza and herpes. It suppresses harmful fungi and supports healthy bacteria.

Other such types of herbal food supplements are chlorella and green barley. Chlorella has the ability for detoxification, cleansing of the bowel, healing ulcers, protection of the liver and efficient elimination of metabolic waste among several other benefits.

Green barley on the other hand, derived from the leaves of young barley plants, is known for its calcium. It is said to contain ten times more calcium than milk. In addition, it contains iron, vitamins and many other nutrients that are helpful for the body.

These herbal foods supplements, whether used alone or as a combination, have a definite advantage over pollution, diet deficiencies and the modern lifestyle that is detrimental to the body. It is a no wonder that they are popularly known as the 'super greens' due to their amazing capabilities for the health of the human body. Still, it is a good thing to consult a medical doctor or health expert before taking any supplement, including the herbal food supplements.
