Causes of Muscle Twitch in leg
- ALS: ALS stands for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a medical condition that may affect the nervous system. The conditions are also referred as Lou Gehrig's disease. It is a serious medical condition that causes the brain nerve cells and spinal cord to die thus, resulting to the death of the one suffering the condition. It is not clear the exact cause of ALS but doctors believed that genetics could play a role in the disease. Initially, the disease may start as muscle twitch in leg or arms and as it progresses, the affected person may find it hard to move. Later the person may not be able to breathe on his or her own. Other symptoms associated with ALS are choking, breathing difficulties, changes in the voice and drooling.
- Fibromyalgia: This is a syndrome that is not clear with the doctors. It may cause pain all throughout the body. Muscle twitching is one of the symptoms of fibromyalgia. The reason behind this is that the muscle may irritate the nerves nearby. Other symptoms of fibromyalgia are depression, extreme lethargy and sleeping problems.
- Muscular dystrophy: A condition characterized as the loss of muscle tissue. There are several kinds of muscle dystrophy and may affect several muscle groups. Symptoms of muscular dystrophy are weakness, loss of muscle tissue and muscle twitching. This disease is more prevalent in children than in adults. Mental retardation in children may occur as result of muscular dystrophy.
