Symptoms of Toddler Eye Discharge
- Pus: One of the symptoms associated with toddler eye discharge is yellow or green discharge.
- Dried pus: The presence of dried pus may also indicate toddler eye discharge.
- Eyelashes: The eyelashes may appear stuck together after sleeping. Your child may find hard to blink due to the eyelashes being matted together.
- Redness of the eyes: The eye may have some redness and pinkness. Most kids may complain of redness in the white area of the eyes. Likewise, the eyelids may also have some puffiness due to the irritation of the infection.
Causes
- Allergic reaction: If your child is fever free and the eyes are watery and red, it is possible that your child may be suffering with allergic reaction. Watch out for other symptoms of allergic reaction like runny nose and sneezing. To lessen the effects of allergic reaction, you may use moist compresses and antihistamines. However, consult with your health care provider before giving any medication to a child.
- Stye: Any tenderness in the eyelid area may indicate the presence of stye. This can be caused by an infection in the eyelid. If stye is the culprit, tell your child to keep the hands clean and to refrain from touching the infected area. Antibiotic ointment maybe used to avoid the infection from spreading.
- Conjunctivitis: Yellow discharge that is not associated with colds may also be caused by bacterial conjunctivitis. This condition may initially start in one eye but may also spread to the other eye. Consult with your pediatrician if you suspect that your child may have conjunctivitis. Observe other symptoms like ear pain since it may mean that the infection is worsening.
