Causes and Treatments of Pimple on Tongue
Pimple on tongue that is characterized as painful white bumps are commonly known as lie bumps. The lie bumps are result of irritation to the fungiform papillae where taste buds are found. The medical name of lie bumps is transient lingual papillitis though it is not considered a medical condition.


Causes of Pimple on Tongue

  • High Acidic Fruits: There is no exact cause of pimple on tongue however, people who often eat high acidic fruits are more at prone of having pimple on tongue. Likewise, people who often eat sugary food and drink may also have higher risk of developing pimple on tongue.

  • Trauma: Another possible factor is trauma. Too much scratching or cutting of the delicate fungiform papillae may result to development of a pimple on a tongue.

  • Gastrointestinal complications: Other possible culprit is gastrointestinal complication. This can also result to the development of pimple on tongue.

  • Treatments of Pimple on Tongue

  • Mouthwash: Gargling two to three times with mouthwash daily. Mouthwash can kill bacteria that are found in the tongue. However, stop gargling if you feel pain while gargling.

  • Hydrogen peroxide: Combine one part of water with also one part of hydrogen peroxide. Use a cotton swab with the combination of hydrogen peroxide and carefully dab it to the white pimple. It is best that you perform this after you use a mouthwash. The combination of hydrogen peroxide and water may kill the additional bacteria that are still in the tongue.

  • Milk of Magnesia: Dab a cotton swab to the milk of magnesia and apply it to the affected area in your tongue. The milk of magnesia is effective in reducing the swelling and may lessen the irritation of the pimples.


According to Old Wives' tales, lie bumps occur when a person tells false stories. It may signify that telling false stories may result to painful affliction. However, these stories are unfounded. It is best that you consult your doctor if your condition does not improve in a few days.
